Medical Imaging Diagnostic & Screening Exams

Medical Imaging of Northbrook Court offers the following state-of-the-art diagnostic studies for early disease detection:

Bone Densitometry
A painless way to detect the initial signs of osteoporosis

Specialized computer software is now able to measure your bone density from images acquired during CT scanning. The Bone Densitometry test helps determine bone density and calcium levels and can uncover initial signs of osteoporosis. If osteoporosis is detected early, it can often be reversed or slowed with appropriate treatments. Early treatment can prevent painful back and hip fractures.

Complete Body Scan CT
A complete look at all the major organs to optimize health management

The Complete Body Scan CT is an ultra fast, three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) scan of all the major organs in the chest, abdomen and pelvis. It evaluates the condition of the liver, pancreas, prostate, kidneys, bladder and other major organs, and includes the SmartScoreTM, Lung Screening CT and Bone Densitometry scans. Each can be completed in a single breath hold.

Digital Mammography with CAD
A breakthrough in fast, accurate screening for breast cancer

Digital mammography, with "built-in" computer-aided diagnostic software (CAD), is a breakthrough in breast imaging. With digital mammography, once the images have been taken they can be electronically manipulated - the physician can zoom in, magnify and optimize different parts of breast tissue without having to take an additional image. Its accuracy, speed and efficiency provide instantaneous review and short exam time. Because exams are stored in digital format (computer-based), the images remain stable and useable over a longer period of time, with virtually no risk of lost films.

Digital Radiography
Captures X-ray images in computer format

With digital radiography, there's no more waiting for film to be developed - the radiologist can look at an image as it's being taken, and make an immediate diagnosis. The digital X-rays reveal greater detail than conventional X-rays, and the images can be electronically manipulated to enhance diagnostic accuracy.

Digital Ultrasound
On the forefront of ultrasound technology

The revolutionary digital ultrasound technology gives clinicians panoramic, real-time images of the body's internal organs, instead of viewing only a single organ or laboriously piecing together a series of images. This new technology saves exam time and gives a much better image of complex anatomy. Digital ultrasound is a vital tool for early detection of ovarian cancer, and is used for safe, painless evaluations of the breast, abdomen and pelvis.

Heart Scan CT (SmartScoreTM)
The most effective tool for analyzing the risk of heart disease

SmartScoreTM helps to detect heart disease at its earliest possible stages, before the onset of symptoms, so you can take appropriate measures to prevent the disease from progressing. SmartScoreTM is an ultra fast CT scan that acquires high resolution images of the heart in as little as 12 seconds. This scan measures the amount of calcium in your coronary arteries (also known as arterial plaque) and then assigns you a relative risk value for coronary artery disease. Since potential blockages along the inner walls of the coronary arteries are visible and can be measured, you have the information you need to take action to stop and even reverse plaque build-up.

Lung Screening CT
A highly sensitive look at the lungs to detect disease at its earliest stages

The Lung Screeing CT is an ultra fast CT scan. This scan can detect lung tumors as small as 3 or 4 mm, at their earliest stage, when they are highly curable. Screening for early lung cancer has proven very beneficial in smokers as well as patients exposed to asbestos and other environmental pollutants.

MRI-High Field 1.5T and Open
A safe, effective, painless, non-invasive diagnostic tool for viewing specific organs inside the body.

Our Magnetic Resonance Imaging System (Open MRI), the Hitachi AIRIS, is based on a high performance permanent magnet which delivers premium image quality as well as complete access to patients. Its open-air design provides for improved patient comfort. The AIRIS provides advanced imaging capabilities such as fast spin echo and MR angiography and a complete set of radio frequency (RF) specialty coils designed for comfortable imaging of various parts of the body. With accessibility from all four sides, physicians can reach patients from the front, back and sides of the magnet, optimizing the system for medical care provider accessibility.

The benefits of MRI are many. The procedure is used for all parts of the body and is effective in the clinical evaluation of the following conditions:

  • Brain Disorders
  • Traumatic Injuries
  • Eye Abnormalities
  • Spine Diseases
  • Tumor Detection
  • Liver and Other Abdominal Diseases
  • Knee and Shoulder Injuries
  • Musculoskeletal Disorders
  • Facial/Neck Abnormalities
  • Infection
  • Blood Flow and Vessel Disorders

    Virtual Colonography
A safe and accurate alternative to the traditional optical colonoscopy

Unlike a traditional colonoscopy, which requires several feet of optical tube about the thickness of a finger to be pushed through the colon, a Virtual Colonography scans for colon abnormalities using ultra fast, three dimensional CT technology to virtually "fly through" the colon. It creates high resolution, multidimensional views of the colon. Computer-aided inspection of the results can detect small polyps. This painless exam requires no sedation and can be completed in two breath holds.

The New England Journal of Medicine reports that the traditional optical colonoscopy and the Virtual Colonography are equally effective in detecting polyps as small as 6 mm, a point at which colorectal cancer is considered highly treatable.
